GLACIER NATIONAL PARK - Firefighters are bracing for another possible run by the Sprague Fire which is burning in the high country above Lake McDonald.

Crews have laid thousands of additional feet of equipment to protect Lake McDonald Lodge and the more than 100 buildings in that complex.

The sprinklers will wet down large areas for a fire break, in case the blaze -- that has already destroyed part of the historic Sperry Chalet -- drops into the valley.

The mandatory evacuation order issued Sunday from the south end of Lake McDonald north to Logan Pass, including the North McDonald Road, remains in effect.

The smoky conditions this week have slowed the 13,275 acre Sprague fire and has also allowed firefighters to work on putting structure protection in place.

No new overnight backcountry permits are being issued at this time due to developing critical fire weather conditions.

Most areas of Glacier National Park remain open including the Going-to-the-Sun Road between St. Mary and Logan Pass. Click here to check the latest closure information from the Park.

A fire information line is available at (406) 387-9092.
