EUREKA - The Caribou fire burning 18 miles northwest of Eureka is sitting at 19,800 acres.

All areas in West Kootenai remain under a pre-evacuation warning -- including West Kootenai North and South of Tooley Lake, Spring Creek, Dodge Creek, and Basin Creek

Fire crews focused on the south and southwest side of the fire on Sunday, continuing fireline construction and engaging direct attack when possible near Lime Creek.

Firefighters and equipment operators will continue building fireline along the north side of Marias Mountain and from Young Creek west towards Lime Creek while heavy equipment will work on indirect line using existing roads in the Blacktail Creek area to the Canadian border.

There are 385 assigned to battle the lightning sparked blaze which has already destroyed several homes and structures. A fire information line at (406) 272-2082 is available from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily.
