Rice Ridge fire at 139,000 acres; public meeting set

SEELEY LAKE - Fire managers report they continue to make good progress fighting the 139,000 acre Rice Ridge fire near Seeley Lake.

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office lifted the final evacuation order for the town of Seeley Lake on Tuesday morning, However, evacuation warnings and orders remain in effect in Powell County.

A community meeting to discuss the Rice Ridge fire will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Ovando Elementary School Gym.

Fire managers report that the fire line is becoming more secure each day in the Seeley Lake area. Meanwhile, a six-mile wide burnout operation is continuing as planned.

Staffed fire information is available at Cory’s Valley Market in Seeley Lake between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. as well as at the Blackfoot Mercantile in Ovando from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Evacuations orders and Evacuation warnings 

  • Powell County evacuation order: includes the Monture Cabin area and the Coopers Lake area.
  • Powell County evacuation warning: includes all other areas of Powell County north of Highway 200 between the Missoula County line on the west and the Lewis and Clark County line on the east.
