Lolo Peak fire grows to nearly 51,800 acres

FLORENCE - The Lolo Peak fire now stands at nearly 51,800 acres as the blaze continues to burn in the Lolo and Florence areas.

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office lifted the final evacuation order along Highway 12 west of Lolo on Tuesday morning.

An evacuation warning remains for residences west of Highway 93 from Tie Chute Lane south to South Kootenai Creek Road near Florence.

Fire managers report that crews put 75,000 gallons of water on the western perimeter, keeping the fire in check and suppressing a spot fire just outside of the perimeter.  

Fire information is available at the Farmer's State Bank in Florence, the Stevensville Super One parking lot and at the weigh station in Lolo at the corner of Highways 12 and 93.

There are 569 people to assigned to battle the lightning sparked blaze which has cost an estimated $42.8 million to fight. Fire managers note that over 237 structures still threatened by the Lolo Peak fire.
