Mandatory evacuations lifted near West Fork fire

LIBBY - There's some good news for some residents who have been forced from their homes by the West Fork fire near Libby.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday evening that the mandatory evacuation orders for Upper Bobtail -- including Bobtail Lane, Bobtail Meadow Road, Red Rose Ranch Road and Kentana Place.

The areas remain under a pre-evacuation warning. Evacuation information can be found at (406) 293-6295. A fire information line for is available at (406) 209-9961.

The Montana Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that Pipe Creek Road north of Libby is ?closed due to fire activity from milepost 7 north to mile 36.4 near Yaak.

The West Fork Fire was detected on Aug. 30 and is burning approximately seven miles north of Libby in the Quartz Creek/Bobtail Ridge area. The blaze has grown to 14,800 acres and has burned several homes and outbuildings in the West 

FEMA has approved money to help pay for the battle against the blazes. There are 238 people assigned to the West Fork fire
