Kalispell schools sets meeting to discuss cyber threats

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL - The Kalispell School District has announced that they will be available to meet with parents on Monday to discuss the latest on the cyber threat that shut down all Flathead County schools again on Monday.

Kalispell Schools Superintendent Mark Flatau says several meetings have been set before students return to class on Tuesday.

Flatau added in a statement that law enforcement "will have a presence on all public school campuses on Tuesday, September 19 and will work to provide additional presence in the days to come."

Student activities and athletics will resume on Tuesday, September 19.

Below is a listing of locations and time set for Monday:

  • Middle School Cafetorium, 2 - 3 pm
  • Flathead High School, 2nd Floor Library, 3 - 4 pm
  • Glacier High School, Conference Room, 3 – 4 pm
  • Linderman Education Center, Gymnasium, 3 – 4 pm
  • All Elementary school Gymnasiums or multi-purpose rooms, 4 – 5 pm

Staff returned to work on Monday and law enforcement is working with schools across the Flathead to assess any security concerns.

Below is the statement to parents issued by Superintendent Flatau:

Dear Families,

We would like to thank our families and staff for your patience as we continue to keep our students and staff safe. The threats against schools launched last week caused disruption to our school communities. The best law enforcement teams in the country continue to work to resolve this situation.

Based on our meeting with valley wide school administrators and law enforcement on Sunday, there is no information that leads law enforcement to believe that the person responsible for the threats is local.

Therefore, on Monday, September 18, all staff in Kalispell Public Schools and other Flathead Valley Schools will report to work and use the day to make plans for students to return to school on Tuesday, September 19. Law enforcement will have a presence on all public school campuses on Tuesday, September 19 and will work to provide additional presence in the days to come.

Student activities and athletics will resume on Tuesday, September 19.

We will have opportunity for parents to meet with building administration tomorrow afternoon to answer any further questions you may have. In order to accommodate families with students at different grade levels the meeting schedule will be as follows:

Middle School Cafetorium, 2 - 3 pm
Flathead High School, 2nd Floor Library, 3 - 4 pm
Glacier High School, Conference Room, 3 – 4 pm
Linderman Education Center, Gymnasium, 3 – 4 pm
All Elementary school Gymnasiums or multi-purpose rooms, 4 – 5 pm
Again, staff will return on Monday, September 18. We intend for students to return on Tuesday, September 19.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school.

Thank you,

Mark Flatau, Superintendent
