EAST HELENA - Montana Superintendent Elsie Arntzen announced a new workforce development partnership in East Helena on Thursday.
Arntzen joined representatives of the Montana Contractors’ Association and Montana Building Industry Association at the site of the new East Helena Elementary School.
Together, they pledged to work towards building a strong and skilled construction workforce in Montana by introducing students to construction career opportunities early in their education.
The group was also joined by first grade students from Eastgate Elementary as they toured the site of where they will attend school next year.
Superintendent Arntzen said she hopes more of Montana’s youth will see construction as a potential career opportunity.
“This is about an investment to a partnership,” Arntzen said. “This is about going to college. It is about having a career, a construction career. It is about building our communities. It is about building for our future. It’s what K-12 education can do. “
MCA Executive Director Cary Hegreberg said even though Montana has added more construction jobs, a struggle continues to fill positions.
Arntzen added she was excited to see the kids learn more about a potential career field and be more involved with their new school.
The tour of the school coincides with Construction Week in Montana.
