BOZEMAN - Before you head out trick or treating this year, pick up a bag from Montana Highway Patrol.
The bright orange bags are versatile and will help keep your child safe.
"This year the Highway Patrol made these really nice bags that double as a backpack and have handles on them and they should be a nice opportunity for kids to be safe when they're out collecting candy and walking around their dark neighborhoods," said Sgt. Glen Barcus.
Sgt. Barcus said another thing to be mindful of is DUIs. They tend to spike on Halloween night to about the same amount MHP see on New Year's Eve.
"Halloween is equally as big if not bigger just in the amount of people that go out and have a good time. Everybody should go out if they want to, but be smart have a designated driver and even a couple drinks are going to slow your reaction time."
A slow reaction time will not help when there are princesses and superheroes running from house to house.
"You always have to look both ways probably twice on Halloween kids are excited and all hopped up on candy. So, you really got to be paying attention to everything going on around you."
The Montana Highway Patrol will be out in full force Halloween night making sure to stop drunk driver's and that the children stay safe. Bags can be picked up at the Montana Highway Patrol office.
