MISSOULA - Several events marking Veterans Day are planned across western Montana on Saturday.
The Missoula ceremony will held at a new location this year due to construction at the Missoula County Courthouse. The American Legion Post 101 will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony at Fort Missoula Regional Park on South Avenue. The ceremony begins at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
In the Bitterroot, the Corvallis American Legion Post 91 will lead a parade down Main Street in Corvallis at 11 a.m.
And this is the first year for the Veterans Day Blizzard Ride from 9:30 to 2 p.m. The ride starts at Napa Auto Parts in Hamilton and will raise money for riders programs and “K9 Care Montana,” which is a service dog training center in Philipsburg.
The National Park Service will offer free admission to all of its facilities on Veterans Day weekend in honor of those who serve and have served in the US military. This includes Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, where the winter hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The self-guiding Deep Ravine Trail and tour road to the Reno-Benteen Battlefield are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
The battlefield shows a 25-minute film titled, “Triumph and Tragedy Along the Little Bighorn” at the Visitor Center upon request during the winter.
