MALTA - A wildland fire north of Malta was out as of 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Phillips County authorities say the fire was reported around 1 p.m. along Highway 191.
While crews were battling the fire, other reports came in for several fires south of Malta.
The fire crews responded to the area.
As of 7 p.m., the blaze had traveled approximately nine miles to the east.
The amount of acres burned is not known at this time.
Crews from Phillips County, Valley County, and the Bureau of Land Management responded as well as private landowners.
Heavy equipment was used to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but is suspected to have started from vehicle or trailer sparks.
