KALISPELL - As Montanans prepare to spend some serious money this holiday season, the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce is urging folks to support their local businesses -- especially this coming Saturday.

Small Business Saturday puts the spotlight on small businesses each year and encourages folks to support local merchants. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) reports that 99.3% of all businesses in Montana are considered "small" -- which is any business that has between two and 500 employees.

Kate Lufkin with the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce says because people are looking for unique holiday gifts Small Business Saturday, it's the perfect opportunity for small businesses to showcase their products.

"It's a total push to get small businesses into the spotlight, highlight what we have to offer here," Lufkin said. "Highlight the businesses that make this Northwest Montana community unique and different from any other community that you're going to find in the country -- even [from] other communities you're going to find across Montana."

This year marks the eighth Small Business Saturday. The SBA reports that Americans spent $15.4 billion at small businesses last year during Small Business Saturday.
