Posted: Updated:

CRESTON - One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash outside of Kalispell on Thanksgiving.

Authorities say the accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday on Highway 35 near mile marker 41.

The Montana Highway Patrol reports that for unknown reasons a 26-year-old woman in a 1993 Nissan Ultima drove into the oncoming lane of traffic.

A 65-year-old Kalispell man heading northbound on Highway 35 in a 2004 Chevy Tahoe was taking a right curve when he saw the Nissan in his lane of travel. According to MHP, the driver of the Tahoe braked and steered to the right to avoid hitting the Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan attempted to correct back into the southbound lane of travel but was struck on the driver side door area by the Tahoe.

The victim was not wearing a seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene, according to MHP. The driver of the Tahoe was wearing his seat belt and was not seriously hurt.

The name of the victim has not been released and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

(Editors note: The time of the accident initially provided to MTN News by a Montana Highway Patrol dispatcher was incorrect.)
