Giving Tuesday raising money for nonprofits

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - Black Friday and Cyber Monday have given way to Giving Tuesday, a day focused on nonprofit organizations.

Nationwide, individuals and corporations are being asked to donate to the estimated 1.5 million not-for-profit organizations across the country.

There are 155 organizations in Missoula that receive roughly 80 percent of their funding from community donations. $308,000 was donated this year on Give Local Missoula Day and the Missoula Community Foundation is encouraging folks to continue to give to non-profits that count on the kindness of their community.

“It’s more important now than ever as we’re seeing some funding on the state and national level reducing," says Executive Director Meredith Printz. "The need for these nonprofits doesn’t go away when those funding cuts come.”

Printz says, in the four years of the Give Local Missoula event, donations are increasing and larger gifts are coming in.
