Missoula elementary school will be named after a Montana legend

MISSOULA -

MISSOULA - The Missoula County Public Schools Board of Trustees has voted to name the new elementary school after legendary Congresswoman Jeannette Rankin.

The school is currently being built directly across from Maloney Ranch Park in Missoula and will replace Cold Springs Elementary School.

Nearly 40 names were submitted to a special committee and then MCPS officials narrowed those down to five finalists with surveys sent out to Cold Springs households.

And winning the title, was Jeanette Rankin Elementary School, honoring the Missoula native who was the first woman to hold federal office in the US, and is still the only Congresswoman elected from Montana.
