Helping to make Christmas merry: Butte program helping needy families

Posted: Updated:

BUTTE - The Mining City Christmas and Giving Program want all children to have a Merry Christmas.

“Our mission really is aimed at making sure that children wake up with a gift,” said Kristen Chambers of Action Inc.

The program has been providing clothing, food, and gifts for Christmas to needy families in Butte for 26 years. Action Inc. hosts this program which organizer say is needed more than ever.

“Last year alone for this program we received 725 applications and that number continues to grow every year. Last year we served over 1,500 children,” Chambers said.

The program is seeking individuals, as well as businesses, to adopt families this holiday season. It’s rewarding to give.

“To see the families come in to see this little slice of hope and help to help during the holidays to kind of offset some of the hardships that they’re facing,” Chambers said.

So if you want to adopt a needy family this year, it’s easy - just step up to one of the trees, pick a card, any card, and right in there is the information of what the family needs this year.

“So you can choose between having a large family or small family and these cards will say kind of some of the things kids like or need,” Chambers said.

Donors can purchase gifts and drop them off at the Action Inc. building at 25 W. Silver Street.

“Butte is such an amazing community to come together to help those less fortunate, so this program would not be possible without that,” Chambers said.

Needy families have until Dec. 12 to apply to be put on the adoption list at Action Inc.
