Kalispell City Council approves city airport lease

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL - The Kalispell City Council voted 9-to-1 on Monday evening in favor of drafting a lease agreement for the Kalispell City Airport to a user’s association.

Council members believe the lease decision will remove the financial liability from the city that would have had to either spend money on closing the facility or buying out the remaining, current leases.

Many who attended Monday's meeting own planes at the airport and were unhappy with the decision from the council.

Here are some of the highlights of the new draft lease agreement:

  • Airport continues under the current operational guidelines
  • Existing hangar leases with the city would be canceled, the new User Group Association would develop new leases with hangar owners.
  • 20 years initial term with an option for an additional 10-year extension.
