Woman killed in Lake County crash ID'd

POLSON - Authorities have released the name of the woman who died in a two-vehicle crash that shut down US highway 93 near Ravalli for several hours on Tuesday.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says that Janet Harmsen, 65, of Polson died in the head-on collision near the intersection of North Valley Road.

Sheriff Bell says that Harmsen's body has been taken to the State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy.

RAVALLI - A Polson woman died and two other people were hurt in a Tuesday afternoon crash on US Highway 93 near the town of Ravalli.

The Montana Highway Patrol responded to the two-vehicle crash just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

MHP reports that the 65-year-old Polson woman, who was driving a Subaru Legacy, was northbound when she crossed the center line and collided with a Toyota FJ Cruiser carrying two occupants.

MHP reported the crash was at the intersection of US Highway 93 and North Valley Road, which is at the south end of the "S" curves coming into Ravalli.

The woman, whose name has not been released yet, was pronounced dead at the scene and that the two people in the Toyota were taken to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

MHP says everyone involved in the crash was wearing their seatbelts and that alcohol and drugs are not suspected. While crews investigated the crash, both lanes on Highway 93 were slowed for nearly 4 hours.

RAVALLI - Emergency crews responded to the scene of a fatal accident which snarled traffic on U.S. Highway 93 in Lake County on Tuesday afternoon.

The Montana Highway Patrol reports the crash, which is believed to have been a head-on, happened just before 3 p.m. near Ravalli.

The Montana Department of Transportation reported the crash was at the intersection of U.S. Highway 93 and North Valley Road, which is at the south end of the "S" curves coming into Ravalli.

It took more than an hour to re-open one lane of traffic around the accident scene.
