MISSOULA – The recent winter weather has kept Missoula law enforcement busy.

The Missoula Police Department reports that they have responded to more than 70 vehicle accidents over the past seven days.

Most of the accidents have been very minor.

Authorities say that most of the accidents have been caused by either a failure to stop in time or driving too fast for the slick road conditions.

Here’s some advice from Missoula PD about navigating city streets:

  • Studded snow tires are fantastic, if you can afford them.
  • Tire chains are very affordable, and are great for in-town driving. Make sure you practice putting them on before it snows.
  • All-wheel-drive (AWD) and 4-wheel-drive vehicles are great for getting you through the snow, but don't prevent you from sliding on icy road conditions.
  • The safest place to be during a snow storm is at home. Ask yourself if that last-minute errand is really necessary.
  • Check your auto insurance policy. Now might be the time of year to increase your coverage if you can.
  • Mountain Line buses are still free! Let them do the driving if your vehicle isn't good in the snow.
