Marcus Daly gets green light for major operating room upgrades

Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON - Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital is headed for a major upgrade to its operating rooms, with the state announcing closure on a $15 million bond sale to pay for the expansion.

Marcus Daly administrators have been working on plans to upgrade and expand the Hamilton hospital's OR capabilities for much of the year. The objective is to create additional operating rooms for the growing demand for surgical procedures in the Bitterroot.

It's the latest in a series of upgrades and expansions which have dramatically changed the hospital over the past decade.

The Montana Department of Commerce is announcing Marcus Daly has closed on the $15 million bond issue through the Montana Facility Finance Authority's Master Loan Program.

That program is aimed at helping small hospitals access low-cost capital financing which helps lower debt and save consumers money.

The hospital intends to use the money to finance construction of three fully-functional operating rooms, space for a fourth room in the future, and an additional room dedicated to performing cesarean sections.

"And that OR project enables us to continue the quality. Because our surgeons are judged on the quality of outcomes. And the surgeons need to have an operating space in which they can perform their specialty and have great outcomes for our patients," MDMH Chief Executive Officer John Bartos said.

The project will result in an estimated 90 construction jobs during the project.
