Arntzen visits Kalispell student construction site

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL - Montana’s State Superintendent Elsie Arntzen has been working with the Montana Contractors Association to raise awareness of careers in construction among K-12 students.

She spoke with students from Flathead and Glacier high schools on Thursday at the site of a home that's being built by students. The construction of the homes is part of a program that teaches students about the construction trade and filling the industry’s need for more skilled workers.

Arntzen was given a tour of one of the completed homes and the two that are currently under construction. Arntzen spoke to them about how every individual has their own path and that just because you don’t go to college doesn’t mean you can’t make a career for yourself through something like construction.

She also talked about the importance of being engaged in school but also said it isn’t just about learning in the classroom, but outside as well.

“It’s not just about learning inside the school, it’s about learning in the community. It’s benefiting the community, its making not only the community proud, but Montana proud,” Arntzen said.

The last two houses being built by the students are expected to be completed in May.
