Stamey appeals wrongful termination ruling

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - Former Ravalli County Treasurer Valerie Stamey is appealing a U.S. District Court ruling which threw out her wrongful termination suit against Ravalli County commissioners and other parties.

Stamey had been seeking $20-million in damages, blaming the county for the way it handled her dismissal for mismanagement after a short, and controversial stint as the Ravalli County treasurer.

U.S. District Court Judge Dana Christensen dismissed Stamey's suit last month, faulting attorney Robert Myers for filing "bizarre motions and briefs" that didn't meet time deadline and local court rules.

Because Myers has been disbarred in a separate action, Stamey filed her own motion with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
