New attorneys joining Frenchtown School District lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

FRENCHTOWN - The family suing the Frenchtown School District in connection with sexual assault charges against music teacher Troy Bashor will be getting some extra legal assistance.

John Clune and Lauren Groth, of the Denver law firm Hutchinson Black and Cook, will be joining the case against the Frenchtown School District and Superintendent Randy Cline.

Clune has been involved with multiple lawsuits against Baylor University, Florida State and the University of Oregon. He is currently working on a case against former San Francisco 49ers football player Jarryd Hayne.

The civil lawsuit against Frenchtown School District and Cline charges the two with violating the Title IX rights of a student. That student, identified as Jane Doe for anonymity, states that the two parties allowed Bashor to work at the school despite accusations of sexual misconduct with students dating back to 2014.

Doe, who was 16 at the time, claims Bashor inappropriately fondled her and made an attempt to kiss her.

Bashor is not a defendant in the civil case, but is facing charged in Missoula County for misdemeanor sexual assault.

For Montana, that means reduced services at community healthcare centers and restricted access to national parks, but services like Social Security and airport operations will remain functioning.
