Marcus Daly expansion final piece in years of facility planning

Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON - When a new set of operating rooms comes online next year at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, it will mark the final phase of a master plan for the hospital campus that’s been years in the making.

The Hamilton hospital has gone through an extensive building program in recent years, opening new facilities like an Intensive Care Wing, Rehabilitation Unit, Birthing Center and others, re-configuring the hospital to meet the changing healthcare market.

Now, construction has started on the $15 million project to open three new operating rooms, with space for a fourth OR in the future, complete with areas for recovery, and all the latest equipment.

The aggressive building program is aimed at meeting the trend for more healthcare, and advanced services for the Bitterroot’s aging population. But also to make it possible for patients and their families to remain closer to home.

“The feedback I get from families, they want their healthcare here. They don’t want to be going to Missoula, or being transferred to Kalispell or Spokane," said MDMH Chief Executive Officer John Bartos. "We want to accommodate what we can do here, do it well, provide high quality for that care and meet the needs of the community.”

As with the other improvements in recent years, Bartos believes the new OR facilities will attract more specialists to come to Marcus Daly and the Bitterroot to work.
