Learning CPR can help you save a life

GREAT FALLS - Great Falls Emergency Services is encouraging people to become certified to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use automatic external defibrillators.

Officials say that even though GFES has a great response time, starting chest compressions on a cardiac arrest patient can make a big difference in their chance of survival.

GFES paramedic Sean Burrows say that people who know how to perform CPR can be the first caregiver to those in need.

"If they know how to handle themselves in a crisis, they do not get that 'deer in a headlights' moment that people do when they experience something that they have never experienced before. Our goal is to help train people to know what to do in those unexpected moments,” Burrows said.

GFES offers courses in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, healthcare provider CPR basic life support, and CPR and first aid courses.
