Flathead Lake Cinemafest brings diversity of film to Polson

Posted: Updated:

POLSON - From bears to balloons, this will be the perfect weekend for film buffs, as the Flathead Lake International Cinemafest makes its return to Polson.

The festival, now in its sixth year, is starting to pick up steam and attract more films, and more international interest.

Through this weekend, festival goers will be able to enjoy a wide variety of productions, from short dramatic and amusing films, to longer, feature-length productions. Entries come from here in the Northwest, but also from overseas directors.

Organizers say they've set up the three-day festival so people can experience a broader variety of films than they might see from streaming services.

"The beauty of it I believe is that there's just so many different things. The blocks are arranged so that there might be a block of shorts, and then maybe one block is simply one complete feature," said Flathead Lake International Cinemafest co-director Frank Tyro.

"And then there's animations and we have some Montana made stuff. We have 150-countries represented. We have 22-filmmakers coming to the festival," he added.

There are also discussions with the filmmakers during the festival.

The Flathead Lake International Cinemafest is based at Showboat Cinemas in Polson, running Friday through Sunday.
