Skier killed at Big Sky Resort

BIG SKY - A man died in a Thursday afternoon after hitting a tree while skiing at Big Sky Resort.

Paramedics from Big Sky Fire Department paramedics were dispatched to a report of a 37-year-old male skier who had struck a tree on Elkhorn Run at Big Sky Resort at 3:35 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Matthew Jay Montag of Washington, D.C. Montag was located by fellow skiers who performed CPR until Big Sky Resort Ski Patrol arrived on the scene, according to officials.

Members of ski patrol took over life-saving measures and moved Montag to a helicopter landing zone. Montag was later determined to be deceased and pronounced by a physician.
