Ronan teacher resigns during investigation of "inappropriate relationship" with student

Posted: Updated:

RONAN - A Ronan Middle School teacher has resigned amidst an investigation into an "inappropriate relationship" with an 18-year-old student.

Ronan Superintendent Mark Johnston says that on Jan. 16 the administration was made aware of these allegations and opened up a Title IX investigation, but the teacher resigned before the investigation concluded.

The teacher worked as a sixth-grade English teacher at the middle school and was an assistant boys basketball coach at the high school.

According to Johnston, no criminal charges have been filed at this time and the Title IX investigation was incomplete due to the teacher resignation.

Ronan Superintendent Mark Johnston's full statement:

“On January 16, we had an allegation brought to administration that a teacher and a high school student were engaged in an inappropriate relationship. We opened up a Title IX investigation and before the investigation concluded the teacher resigned. That teacher’s resignation was accepted during a special board meeting on January 22.”
