Bonner School welcomes special bison

Posted: Updated:

BONNER - A special treat awaited students when they arrived at Bonner School on Thursday -- inside the library was a chainsaw sculptured wooden bison.

Local artist Ice Rogers took the wood from a tree that had hung up in the Blackfoot River and has been crafting it into a bison since late November.

The Bonner Development Group purchased the piece of art, and donated it to the school.

Students were thrilled at the sight of the bison, and faculty members were excited to bring in a piece that can be used as a learning tool.

“Our efforts to really integrate a Native American education into what we do at school is really going to be a…really a fundamental kind of anchor point for that process. I think it’s going to be an excellent teaching tool in the way,” said Bonner School Superintendent Jim Howard.

Rogers has also sculpted the Lumberjack mascot that is located in the school gymnasium.
