Students audition for the UM Dance Program

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - Dancers from several different genres -- including jazz, modern, and ballet -- all gathered at The University of Montana to take part in the seventh annual Dance Days event.

The UM Dance Program invited students from regional high schools and two-year colleges to join in two days of dancing and performances. The event has helped raise awareness of the dance program and attract potential students.

Big Sky High School student Isaiah Kim recently learned that the University of Montana featured a dance program.

"When I heard I definitely was very interested," said Kim who added that the people he met at Dance Days were friendly and made him feel welcome. "Today this is the first time for an audition I didn't feel nervous at all.

"I think we're like a hidden treasure sometimes. We're down in the basement were doing our work all the time," said Associate Professor of Dance, Heidi Jones Eggert.

Visiting students were able to take classes in five different genres and attend the school’s American College Dance Association Benefit Concert. Dancers also had the opportunity to tour the School of Theater & Dance and learn more about the program.
