Dad: Bone fragments found in Missoula not from his 3 missing children

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - The father of three missing boys in Michigan says the bones found in Missoula this fall are not the remains of his children.

A cleaning crew found a box containing skeletal remains in a shed on 2100 block of South 12th Street West that included a partial human jaw bone and other bone fragments. Investigators believe those bones came from three children.

The discovery got the attention of police in Michigan who are looking for three brothers who vanished in 2010. Their father is in prison in connection to the case. He recently told a Detroit TV station that those bones are not those of his three boys, Andrew, Alexander and Tanner.

They were last seen in 2010 after John Skelton failed to return them to his estranged wife after a visit. He later claiming he gave the boys away to protect them from their mother. They haven't been seen since.

DNA testing is being done on the remains found in Missoula, however it is not known if there's enough material to get a proper identification. Missoula Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Travis Welsh says they do not have a definitive date for when the DNA analysis will be complete.
