Whitefish Hotel Ranked top ski hotel in North America

Posted: Updated:

WHITEFISH - Whitefish is a big tourist destination and USA Today just named one of the city's lodges as the top ski hotel in all of North America for the second year in a row.

“Twenty-eight years ago. 28, 29 years ago we came here on a ski trip and fell in love with Whitefish and we wanted to do our own thing and so we moved here about 27 years ago with this in mind and we bought the land and built this lodge.”

Kim and Kent Taylor opened the Hidden Moose Lodge 23 years ago and have been catering to the traveling skiers ever since. The lodge sits above Wisconsin Avenue just a ½ mile from the turn onto Big Mountain Road.

When the Taylor’s first opened the hotel there were four rooms -- one for the Taylor’s -- and three open for guests. They eventually grew more adding four new rooms, then six and one more recently bringing the total to 14 available rooms today.

Kim says when they created the lodge they wanted it to be a place that they would want to come when traveling to Montana and believes that is what makes their hotel number one.

“We like fireplaces, we like a glass of wine at night, we like a good television with videos. We like that feel and we wanted to be someplace that if people were coming to Montana this is what they expect so we built it with that in mind,” Taylor said.

Good Medicine Lodge, also located in Whitefish was ranked as the seventh best ski hotels in North America.
