Former Helena teacher accused of sexual intercourse without consent

Posted: Feb 08, 2018 10:15 AM Updated:

A former Helena teacher has been charged with sexual intercourse without consent involving a student several years ago.

Rene Elena Carter appeared in Lewis & Clark County Justice Court on Thursday.

Justice of the Peace Michael Swingley read Carter her rights and told her she's facing one count of felony sexual intercourse without consent.

Charging documents allege that between February 2015 and June 2015, Carter had repeated sexual intercourse with a minor male who, according to prosecutors, was legally incapable of giving consent.

Carter worked as a special education teacher with Helena schools starting in 1998. She resigned her post in July of 2015.

She's been released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned in District Court on Feb. 21.
