KALISPELL - A Kalispell man pulled over for routine traffic stop was hospitalized after he stabbed himself in the neck.
Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry reported around 9 a.m. Thursday that a deputy initiated a traffic stop east of Evergreen on U.S. Highway 2.
The deputy ran the driver's name and found he was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant. When he returned to the vehicle the man had a large knife to his throat.
The deputy called for backup to block the vehicle and contain the situation.
Negotiations began and continued until just after 11:30 a.m. when the man stabbed himself in the neck.
The man was taken from the car and given medical attention immediately as Evergreen Fire and Rescue were on scene.
The 24-year-old man was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and does not have life-threatening injuries.
Curry said the man is being held on a mental health hold.
