Q2 Weather: The heavy snow event is over for Billings. Now it gets cold

Posted: Updated:

BILLINGS - That was quite a snowstorm that moved in the Billings area Thursday night. The system seemed to stall right over south-central Montana and Billings.

However, the storm seems to be moving out of the area, and sunshine is trying to build in the rest of Friday afternoon.

The temperature in Billings on Friday afternoon is only getting into the mid single digits.

Some of the snowfall reports we received included 12 inches at Billings, Billings Heights and Sanders in Treasure County.

Rapelje saw 10 inches, and Laurel reported 8 inches of snow.

The Doppler radar shows the snowfall continues to move out of south-central Montana and into central Wyoming.

A few flurries are still lingering in west-central Montana around Missoula..

Our computer forecast models show the snow showers will continue to move out of Montana the rest of Friday night and into Saturday morning.

The threat board appears to be clearing up somewhat, but we still have a Wind Chill Warning and Wind Chill Advisory for the northeast corner the state.

Wind chills could drop as low as 30 to 45 below zero around Glasgow in northeastern Montana.

We also have maybe one more inch of snow left around Missoula to Great Falls down to Bozeman, plus an Avalanche Warning for the back country of the Beartooth Mountains.

The computer models also show another storm is moving in late Sunday and Monday and Billings could pick up another 2 1/3 inches of snow out of it.
