Man arrested in Missoula after vehicle, foot chase

MISSOULA - A man is facing multiple felony charges after leading law enforcement on a pursuit.

The incident occurred on Friday after Missoula Police conducted a traffic stop on North Russell Street.

Officers asked Jody Bennett to consent to a search of the vehicle, which Bennett declined.

MPD then requested Missoula County Sheriff’s K-9 unit to search his vehicle.

When Bennett was asked to exit the vehicle for the dog to conduct a search, Bennett put the car in gear and attempted to elude officers.

Because of the icy conditions, Bennett wrecked his vehicle and tried to run away. He was subdued by an officer but continued to resist while on the ground.

In court documents, officers reported that they found meth in Bennett’s left sleeve pocket. He faces two felony charges, including attempted escape and criminal possession of dangerous drugs. 

Bennett also faces misdemeanor fleeing from or eluding a peace officer, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle not equipped with a stop lamp.
