Proposed Seeley Lake development sparks debate

Posted: Updated:

SEELEY LAKE - A proposed 60-home subdivision near Seeley Lake is raising questions about taxes as the development would be using resources in Missoula County while paying taxes to Powell County.

The proposed subdivision nearly falls on the border of Powell and Missoula counties, roughly ¼ mile northeast of the Seeley Lake airport.

The big questions on many Seeley Lake residents minds are how can they work with Powell County to share expenses with the possibly 60 new families moving into the area.

"Certainly, there would be some economic advantages if everyone shares in the cost. We have to work out a way where everyone pays their fair-share for trash, police. Right now, there is probably more questions than answers," Seeley Lake Community Council Member Lee Bowman said.

Bowman also added some residents are concerned the developer wants to build higher-end homes, but some residents say the area needs affordable housing.
