MISSOULA - A 12-year-old has been cited by police after causing a Missoula school to go into lockdown on Thursday afternoon.

Lowell Elementary School was locked down after a witness reported seeing a 12-year-old boy brandishing what appeared to be a firearm.

Missoula Police spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh says the boy was spotted at a bus stop pointing what turned out to be a BB gun at his brother.

Sgt. Welsh says that authorities then responded to the scene and quickly found the boy who was taken to his mother.

The boy was released to his mother and after an investigation was completed was cited with disorderly conduct.
