Woman rescued after falling into Clark Fork River

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - Witnesses called authorities on Sunday after hearing a woman scream when she fell into the freezing waters of the Clark Fork River.

City fire officials say when the call came in the woman was last seen at the Russell Street Bridge.  The Missoula Police Department then found her close by still conscious in the water.

Jeff Biggs with Missoula City Fire Department said it was lucky that despite cold temperatures she was still awake.

"The patient was found...[where] there's a wedge of logs and she was in that strainer caught," Biggs said. "And we were able to get a rope around her and then we had crews pull her upstream and then we got underneath her and brought her up the bank which was the safest, best, way but it was lucky."

The victim was taken to St. Patrick Hospital after being pulled from the water.
