SANDPOINT, ID -- Two police officers are recovering after being shot in northern Idaho early Monday morning.
A report from KREM TV states that Sandpoint Police Chief Corey Coon says the suspect in the shooting is dead.
Sandpoint Police responded to a Ridley Village residence at approximately 3:10 a.m. on Monday and approached the reporting party.
According to KREM TV, during contact, the suspect stepped out of the residence and began firing at officers.
One officer is in surgery at Kootenai Medical Center, officials said. The second was transported to Bonner General Hospital.
The City of Sandpoint said both officers are expected to survive and the officer at Bonner General has been transported home.
Officials have yet to identify the officers who were shot.
