LOLO - Authorities were called to investigate a suspicious package that was found at the south Town Pump convenience store by Highway 12 in Lolo late Monday afternoon.

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office cordoned off the scene for over an hour on Monday before determining that the package was a beeping smoke detector that was discovered in a trash can.

A Town Pump employee heard the beeping, looked at the item, and decided to call to police.

The scene has since been cleared. No evacuations were ordered during the investigation.

Authorities are still trying to determine if the detector was thrown away by accident, or if it was someone pulling a prank.
