"Y" daycare classrooms clean, but some areas contaminated

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - Missoula County Family YMCA leaders say new test results show all of the daycare center's classrooms are free of methamphetamine contamination.

However, eight other areas are contaminated and the agency says it will take a "minimum of 30-days" to get them cleaned…

The YMCA has been working all week to try and determine how much of the Learning Center was contaminated by a former employee who created what prosecutors have called a "drug den" so she could smoke meth on her breaks. Autumn Sienna Heinz, 30, is facing three felony charges.

The Learning Center has been closed since Wednesday, as "Y" managers work to determine the extent of contamination.

YMCA leaders say testing by specialists have confirmed that all of the Learning Center classrooms are free from meth contamination. However, 8-areas have shown traces of meth.

Now, the Missoula YMCA will use a licensed meth contractor to clean the entire facility, even the classrooms as a precaution. Once that's done, the building will be re-inspected and re-approved by the health department. That's expected to take more than a month.

Interim Executive Director Heather Foster says everyone has shown an "outpouring of support and understanding" through what she calls a "devastating time."

The YMCA's main campus continues to be open to Learning Center families.
