Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - Four Missoula County Public Schools will end the school year one day early due to bond-funded construction at their campus.

Hellgate High School, Hawthorne, Lewis and Clark and Russell elementary schools will hold their last day of school on Thursday, June 7, 2018.

Each of the schools will experience significant construction this summer that requires teachers and staff to pack up classrooms and move them to temporary storage or to other areas in the building, according to MCPS spokeswoman Hattan Littman.

All three schools will be moving their main office location as well as renovating interiors and adding square footage for classrooms and project-based learning spaces.

Construction projects across the community are on scheduled to be complete by September 2020, with ten major projects in process during the summer of 2018 at Hellgate and Sentinel High schools, Willard Alternative High School Program, Washington Middle school, Meadow Hill Middle school, Russell, Jeannette Rankin, Lewis and Clark and Hawthorne Elementary schools and the MCPS Ag Center.

The construction and capital improvement projects are funded by an $88 million elementary district bond and a $70 million high school district bond approved by voters on November 3, 2015.
