Historic Fort Missoula celebrates Fourth of July for 42nd straight year

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - A Fourth of July Missoula tradition continued Wednesday at Historic Fort Missoula.

For over four decades Fort Missoula has hosted their Old-Fashioned Celebration that includes live music, games, pony rides and offers a taste of history.

The event began with a pancake breakfast and also featured a welcome ceremony including a presentation of the flag and singing the National Anthem.

Historical Fort Missoula Executive Director Matt Lautzenheiser says he feels the event continues to be popular because of the family feel it consistently provides.

“It’s something the community has become accustomed to," he said. "We’ve done it for 42 years now. There’s a lot of fireworks shows in the evening, but a lot of times families are looking for something to do around lunch time before the do the cookout in the evening and it’s such a multi-generational event, as well. There’s a little something for everyone, whether you are a grandfather, grandma and mom and dad and the kids.”

Lautzenheiser says the turnout was very good this year, which he says is typical when the Fourth of July falls in the middle of the week.
