Comments sought on plans to remove Old Steel Bridge fishing pier

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL - Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing to remove a deteriorating fishing pier along the Flathead River, saying that the failing structure at Old Steel Bridge Fishing Access Site presents a public safety issue.

Erosion has undercut the pier in recent years and the structure is unstable and unsafe for use. FWP closed the pier in 2016 by posting signage and roping it off, but people have continued to use it.

FWP has determined that any effort to repair or reinforce the failing structure would be costly and would only provide a short-term solution. Public comment on the proposed project’s Draft Environmental Assessment is being accepted through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.

The draft EA is out for a 15-day public review. ?Click here to view FWP's proposal or to leave a comment.
