Saturday marks the 29th annual Lakeside Community Fair

Posted: Updated:

LAKESIDE - This Saturday will mark the 29th annual Lakeside Community Fair. The long-standing event raises funds to help meet the charitable needs of the Lakeside community.

The Lakeside Community Club was founded in 1929.

The club’s major fundraising effort is the Community Fair held each year at the Lakeside Elementary School Gym and Grounds.

In 2017, the fair raised and allocated $29,000 to the west shore community and beyond.

The fair will kick off at 7 a.m. at the Lakeside Community Chapel with a pancake breakfast. A silent auction and Attic Treasure and Bake sale will follow.

There is no fee to enter and an entire school gym full of items for purchase.

The club's members spend the entire year gathering pieces for the annual Attic Treasures sale.

The event also includes parade down Highway 93, a watermelon eating contest and a kids zone.

Organizer Kaye Hopkins says the sale is unlike any other with items collected and high-graded throughout the year. She says all proceeds go right back into the community.

"All of the funds from our Lakeside Community Fair go back into the 501-C3's that support the Lakeside community and its residents. Our fire departments, A.L.E.R.T helicopter, the QRU, our shelters, all of those things that help our community residents and support our Lakeside people," Hopkins said.

The theme of the fair this year is "Whatever Floats Your Boat" to highlight different aspects of the community that should float your boat.

As usual, the day will begin with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. in "The Gathering Place". At 9 a.m. the Attic Treasures sale, craft vendors, a silent auction, bake sale, Split the Pot and food vendors will begin.

There will be a parade down Highway 93 at 11 a.m., at which time the kids zone will open in the school yard.

The watermelon eating contest at 1:30 p.m. is always a must-see event.

At 2 p.m. the kids zone, silent auction and food vendors will close. All other sales will be complete by 3 p.m.

Duck races will take place at the Tamarack at 4 p.m.
