KALISPELL - A Flathead Valley woman who's been missing for over two weeks has been found dead.
Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says the body of Alex Beltran, 23, of Whitefish was recovered from a pond at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Beltran has been missing since July 16th after leaving a friend's home on the west side of Kalispell.
Curry says a resident on the west side of Kalispell reported finding what he believed was a vehicle in a pond on his property.
Divers from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a vehicle was submerged in the pond, which was very murky and had zero visibility.
Once the vehicle was removed from the water Beltran's body was found inside.
Curry says it appears that the vehicle went down the driveway, across a lawn, and into the water.
"It does appear that she just drove down a driveway perhaps was lost, not knowing where she was, drove across the lawn and into the pond," Curry said. "So at this point it certainly looks accidental but we always make sure we very thoroughly investigate any possibilities and look at every detail we can."
Beltran’s body will be transported to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula so that an autopsy can be performed.
"We do believe that she was drinking heavily the day that she disappeared from the residence on the west side of Kalispell," Curry said. "That takes some time but eventually we will get those results as well."
The death remains under investigation.
