MISSOULA – Missoula County Public Schools superintendent Mark Thane has been selected by the Western Montana Association of School Superintendents as Superintendent of the Year.

He attended Missoula County Public Schools and has served the school district for 35 years, serving in many different roles.

Thane was chosen by other Western Montana Superintendents, which means that Thane will be up for the Montana Superintendent of the Year award.

Thane says he’s grateful to receive the award, but credits everyone inside at MCPS, from parents to employees, for making it possible.

“The school district certainly, again, is really being recognized here. Our community supported us tremendously with our levy requests and our bond requests. We have a tremendous amount of work going on in terms of teaching and learning," Thane said.  "In terms of classroom instruction. In terms of our construction. So there’s plenty of work to be done and its work that’s being achieved by a huge collaborative of individuals that work for the district. The parent community, the community at large and certainly our students.”

The Montana Superintendent of the Year award will be chosen from a group of nine superintendents from across the state and presented here in Missoula in October.
