BOZEMAN – The Bozeman School Board has decided to pause its decision to name the city’s second high school Bozeman Westslope High School after backlash from the community.

The board met at noon on Monday to discuss the 300+ emails they received from the public after approving the name a week ago.

The board said they believe they did not truly get enough public comment and would like to receive more community input on the name, which is why they are taking a second look.

Members are asking the naming committee to pick two more options that will be considered with the three already in contention: Bozeman Westslope High School, Bozeman Spanish Peaks High School, and Bozeman Storm Castle High School.

The two new options will come from the same list of 19 contenders the school board previously approved.

The five names will then be polled by students, parents, staff, and community members.

The school board will consider those results when deciding again on the final name, either on March 11 or March 25.
