POLSON – Lake County authorities are gearing up for this weekend’s predicted winter weather.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, emergency only travel will be advised from 5 p.m. on Friday until to early Sunday morning.
Residents are being advised to get any necessities before the winter weather sets in.
The National Weather Service Office in Missoula has issued a Winter Storm Warning until 12 p.m. on Saturday for the Mission and Flathead valleys.
Blowing and drifting snow will be followed by extremely cold wind chills. Total snow accumulations of 1″-to3″ is expected.
The NWS warns that travel could be very difficult due to drifting snow across roadways. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
Additionally, the cold wind chills as low as -20º could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
A Winter Storm Warning for blowing snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
