TUCSON, AZ (KTBS) — Tucson sports may be known for Arizona Basketball, but two local female competitive eaters will be battling it out for the Nathan’s fourth of July hot dog eating title in Coney Island, New York.

Five-time champion Miki Sudo recently moved to Tucson, while Tucsonan Michelle Lesco finished second last year. The two are friends at, and away from, the table.

“I’m so glad to have her as a friend,” said Sudo over lunch at El Guero Canelo restaurant on 22nd street. “We’re rivals at the table, but we do all of our hot dog practices together.”

Sudo won last year by downing 37 hot dogs in ten minutes to Lesco’s 28 hot dogs.

“At this point, I’m expected to win. So, I think there is the pressure that keeps me motivated.”
